about

Written out of frustration of growing up in a generation of instant gratification, one dimensional perspective and zero empathy. The Hazey boys are just like any other guys that have been to school in the UK. Experienced all the different stages of youth and met all the different characters that you expect to meet in a suburban town. Gateway Mug is a message from the unheard, overlooked, and regular person, to the egotistical co-habitants that represent the selfishness and embarrassment of our generation.

The lyrical aspect of the song has stemmed from a common characteristic of creating a false persona to help fit into society as well as looking down on others to make yourself feel worthy and well-recognised by the circle they’re in. The message is quite simple, we don’t want to be associated. We won’t alter our personalities to fit the norm. We won’t listen to the jokes and comments that are made to belittle us on the outside of their fake communities

lyrics

Hey you, I know what you want
I know it won’t stop - you need to keep it on - so it won’t fall off
And just to top it off, I think you’ve played this game wrong
You’ve had your fun but it’s funny how the tables turn
Now the tables turned
This is gonna be fun

You always laugh at your own jokes
Say you won't say (say you won't say) anymore
You’re always laughing at your own jokes
So say you won’t say (say you won’t say)
Coz i'm not listening

This is the second time that you’ve said my name wrong
You still don’t understand, coz you’re not listening
It’s the first and last time i’ll be here
All the hope i had has disappeared
Now i’m being deadly serious
Coz you continue to despise

You always laugh at your own jokes
Say you won't say (say you won't say) anymore
You’re always laughing at your own jokes
So say you won’t say (say you won’t say)
Coz i'm not listening

Being down on my own
It’s all that I’ve known
This cameo is getting old
My halo is turning cold
Making castles with no hands
Our names drawn in the sand
It’s braking my empathy
And I can not wait to see

What you’ve become

You always laugh at your own jokes
Say you won't say (say you won't say) anymore
You’re always laughing at your own jokes
So say you won’t say (say you won’t say)
Coz i'm not listening
